  • Page 32 Loading the roll paper Follow the directions below to mount the optional Roll Paper Holder and load the roll of paper. 1. Turn on the printer. 2. Remove the paper support. 3. Mount the Roll Paper Holder by lowering it into the slot on the back of the sheet feeder where the paper support was mounted, as shown below.
  • Page 33 Note: Match the R and L markings on the Roll Paper Holder to those on the printer. 4. Slide the roll paper onto the spindle, and make sure the left and right of the Roll Paper Holder. Make sure that the spindle is oriented correctly as shown in the illustration below.
  • Page 34 Note: ❏ Before printing, make sure that there is enough roll paper remaining to complete the entire print job. If the roll paper runs out during a print job, the rest of the print data will be lost. ❏ If the roll paper runs out during a print job, turn off the printer and delete all print jobs in the print queue.
  • Page 35 7. Open the printer cover and make sure that the paper is feeding correctly. If it is not straight, press the load/eject button for three seconds to eject the paper, then feed the paper again. The roll paper is now loaded. Next, set up the printer driver and try printing.

    Switching between roll paper and single sheets To switch from roll paper to single sheet printing, follow these steps: 1. Remove the roll paper and spindle from the Roll Paper Holder. There is no need to remove the Roll Paper Holder to print on sheet paper.
  • Page 37 Note: If the paper length is less than the paper size setting plus 34 mm, nothing will be printed on the last 14 mm of the paper. For A4 and 329-mm width roll paper, lines are printed on the back at 5-cm intervals, with bold lines printed at 50-cm intervals.
  • Page 38 2. Roll the paper in direction opposite of the paper’s curl so that the curl disappears, as shown below. Place the paper inside the protective film packaged with the optional Roll Paper Holder, or a thin booklet such as your Daily Use guide when rolling the paper.
  • Page 39 3. Load the paper into the sheet feeder and slide the left edge guide against the left edge of the paper. 4. To load the sheet in the printer, lightly hold the paper in place while you press the load/eject button, as shown below. Once the sheet is loaded, you are ready to print.

    Printing on roll paper Once you have prepared your roll paper and loaded it into the printer, you must make the printer driver settings before you can print. One of the first things you should decide is what width of roll paper you will be using.
  • Page 41 With Roll Paper [zero margins] selected as the Paper Source, no margin will be left along either side of the paper. A 36-mm margin will be inserted between print jobs. When printing, the top margin above the print data will be set to 20 mm. The left and right margins can be set to 0 mm by selecting Roll Paper [Zero Margins].

In many applications, you can select Print directly from the File menu and access the printer driver by clicking the Properties button. 3. Click the Paper tab and select the appropriate Paper Source and Paper or Page Size.

The printer driver lets you choose from a wide variety of settings to get the best results from your printer. The printer utilities help you check the printer and keep it in top condition.

    Using the Automatic mode When Automatic is selected as the Mode setting on the Main menu, the printer driver takes care of all detailed settings based on the current Media Type and Ink settings. The IC chip accurately monitors the amount of ink used by each cartridge, so even if a cartridge is removed and later inserted again, all of its ink can be used. However, some ink is consumed each time the cartridge is inserted because the printer automatically checks reliability.
