Arc ng s occured w th n the nterrupter by w thdraw ng the
mov ng contact from stat onary contact. Th s arc burns n the
metal vapor evaporated from local hot spots on the contact
surfaces. The metal vapour cont nually leaves the nter-contact
reg on and recondenses on the contact surfaces and surround ng
metal vapor condensat on sh eld. The latter s usually solated
from both contacts and serves to protect the glass or ceram c
envelope from vapor depos t on. At current zero, vapor product on
ceases and the or g nal vacuum cond t on s rap dly approached.
The d electr c strength of the nterrupter also ncreases, and the
