6.2 onitoring PAM tests

On the start screen above, click Use PAM Device and a box should appear with Waiting
for PAM. The traffic lights should all be grey.
If PAM is connected, during tests, to a PC which is Waiting for PAM, the PC will display
the force curve while the force is applied, as shown below.
We have designed this PAM PC software as a helpful tool for all users. The PAM PC
software should be thought of as a tool.
The graphic screen on the left side is a visual guide during the experiments. The operator
should practice trying to match the applied force (yellow line) with this blue line of the
display. As you can see, the yellow is the actual force which is being applied, and the blue
line represents what it looks like when the force is applied in a linear increasing rate. One
should think of the blue line as the ideal, the "target" that the user should try to match as he
or she is applying the force. The yellow line will assist an operator in applying the force
smoothly and steadily. With practice, a researcher can become very skilled at steadily
applying force, at a steadily increasing rate of application of the force, and really improve
results.
