General Information about Standard Ethernet Patch and Crossover Cables
The TIA/EIA-568-B Ethernet connector specification defines two types of pin assignment for an
Ethernet cable. The standard Ethernet patch cable is a straight through connection of where
both RJ45 ends wired the same. The Ethernet crossover cable has the RX and TX pairs
switched between the end terminals.
