7. Radius bending of sheet metal

Be sure to keep the three rollers free of trimmed off sheet metal pieces or
of foreign particles. Such particles can cause marks in workpieces and
rollers and damage to them can occur.
7.1. Preparation of the machine
- Loosen the adjusting screws (6) of the bending roller (9) entirely until the
pointer (7) of the bending roller points to the lowest graduation line of the
graduated dials (8) which are located on each side of the machine.
- Make sure that the top driving-roller (11) is correctly fitted (see Section 9)
- Tighten adjusting screws (12/13) of the top driving-roller to the point
where the top (11) and the lower (10) driving roller contact each other
evenly on their entire length.
- Loosen adjusting screws of top driving-roller by 1.5 turns.
- Slide the sheet metal to be worked on between the two driving rollers.
- Tighten the two adjusting screws by equal amounts until the workpiece is
evenly held between the two driving rollers over its full width.
- By revolving the hand crank (3) the workpiece can now be driven from
the front to the rear through the machine.
7.2. The radius bending operation
- Move bending roller (9) upwards by tightening the adjusting screws (6) by
equal amounts on both machine sides. Make sure that the pointers (7)
point to the same graduation line of the graduated dial (8) on both
machine sides.
- Hold the workpiece exactly at right angles between the two driving-rollers
(10/11) and drive it once or several times through the machine by
revolving the hand crank (3).
- Move bending roller again upwards by tightening the adjusting screws
by equal amounts on both sides of the machine and crank the workpiece
again through the machine.
- This should be repeated until the required radius is obtained.
Note: If slightly tapered workpieces are required, the adjusting screws (6) of the
bending rollers have to be set to different heights to bring the axis of the
bending-roller out of alignment with the axis of the driving rollers.
