Pyxis Lab Inc. Standard Limited Warranty Pyxis Lab warrants its products for defects in materials and workmanship. Pyxis Lab will, at its option, repair or replace instrument components that prove to be defective with new or remanufactured components (i.e., equivalent to new).
1.2 Pyxis SP-380P Major Features The Pyxis SP-380P analyzer measures the concentration of fluorescent polymer or PTSA of a water sample. Main features include: • The SP-380P is pre-calibrated for measuring fluorescent polymer in the range of 0 to 20 ppm or PTSA in the range of 0 to 500 ppb. The fluorescent polymer or PTSA measurement is automatically compensated for sample color and turbidity interference.
2 Start Pyxis SP-380P 2.1 Battery Installation The SP-380P is powered by 4 AA alkaline batteries. Do not use rechargeable nickel cadmium (NiCad) or lithium batteries. The 4 AA alkaline batteries will last sufficient for about 3000 measurements. When the battery capacity is critically low, the SP-380P will display a LOW...

Replace the battery to resume operation of the SP-380P after the battery warning. The SP- 380P will automatically turn on in the measurement mode after new battery installation. The SP-380P battery compartment, shown in Figure 2 is on the back side of the instrument. Install battery as follows: •...
2.2 Description of the Control Keys The SP-380P has three keys as shown in Figure 3 The left (<), right (>) and OK keys are used to launch an action indicated on the screen directly above the keys. Please note that the screen is not a touch screen.
3 Fluorescent Polymer and PTSA Measurement 3.1 Measurement When powered on, the SP-380P will be in the measurement (read) mode (see Figure 3). The displayed value is the concentration of PTSA and Fluorescent Polymer measurement. The water sample can be transferred to the measurement cell using a pipette or filled directly from a faucet, sample bottle, or sample valve.
Page 12
3) A screen similar to Figure 3 will appear. The unit is actively reading and displaying the PTSA and fluorescent polymer residual in the sample. The values will be very low if DI water is used; PTSA and fluorescent polymer value should be near zero. A low non- zero value (e.g.

Figure 5 Rinse the sample cell out thoroughly (twice at least) with the desired PTSA standard and ensuring the measurement sample cell is nearly full. If the 100 ppb PTSA default is not the desired PTSA for calibration, press the Cycle labeled key (<) to switch between the PTSA standards 100 or 200 ppb (press repeatedly).

Figure 6 12) Press the Exit labeled key (OK) to return to the measurement screen. The screen will be similar to Figure 7 . Slight variance in the PTSA value is not problematic. If Exit button is pushed before the second checkmark appears, the calibration will not be completed and must be re-done.
4.2 Fluorescent polymer Calibration The SP-380P fluorescent polymer measurement can be calibrated. To calibrate fluorescent polymer measurement requires the 10 or 20 ppm fluorescent polymer standard solution from Pyxis Lab. Fluorescent polymer Calibration (2 Point with Zero) 1) Rinse sample...

6) Insert DI Solution, and press Zero labeled key (<) to set the zero point. 7) After a successful zero calibration a checkmark symbol will appear next to “Press Zero Button” to confirm success. The screen will also update to show the Slope steps, as in Figure 9.

Figure 10 12) Press the Exit labeled key (OK) to return to the measurement screen. The screen will be similar to Figure 11. Slight variance in the fluorescent polymer value is not problematic. If Exit is done before the second checkmark appears, the calibration will not be completed and must be re-done.
4.3 Quick Tips 1) If the 100 ppb PTSA concentration (the default) is the desired calibration, then the key presses from the beginning, including the power on, are: OK, < , <, {refill with PTSA standard}, >, then after completion, Exit to return to Measurement Mode. Similarly, if 10 ppm fluorescent polymer is the desired calibration value, press the following keys from the beginning to quickly complete the calibration: OK, >, <, {refill fluorescent polymer standard},>, then after completion, Exit to return to...
PTSA. Heavy fouling will prevent the light from reaching the sensor, resulting in inaccurate readings. It is suggested that the SP-380P be checked for fouling and cleaned on a monthly basis. Heavily contaminated waters may require more frequent cleanings.
Put cleaning solution into the sample cell for 10-30 minutes depending on severity of foulant and gently clean with Q-Tip provided in the Pyxis Handheld Device Cleaning Kit. Rinse the measurement cell with distilled water and then do the cleanliness check as described above.
8 REGULATORY APPROVAL United States The SP-380P sensor has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy, and if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
