3-1 Adding Glue

WARNINGS
- Even in the standby mode, the glue
tank is heated. Keep your hands and
fingers away from the melt tank. Other-
wise severe personal injury can result.
- Be sure to wear gloves when adding
glue.
CAUTION
- Do not add glue to a level higher than
the red line on the level scale in the
melt tank.
-Open the cover before adding glue.
-Add glue before the fins are project 1 cm
above the surface of the glue.
-When adding glue during binding opera-
tion, add the glue into the melt tank little
by little to prevent the glue temperature
from dropping rapidly.
-It is suggested that glue is added in the
standby mode after finishing binding
work.
Horizon Hot-melt Glue
Hot-melt glue is solid at normal tempera-
ture, starts to soften at 100 degrees Cel-
sius and turns to a liquid as the tempera-
ture rises further. The liquid glue perme-
ates the book sheets, and then solidifies
and adheres to the sheets as the tempera-
ture falls.
The quality of the hot-melt glue will
deteriorate after long-term use at high
temperature. Continuous binding opera-
tions with new glue being regularly added
will not lead to rapid deterioration of the
glue, but the same material will
deteriotrate after continuous exposure to
high temperature and will suffer from
gelation after 50 hours have passed.
Glue exposed to ultraviolet radiation for 6
to 12 months will becomes brittle, but this
creates no problem in normal use. The
cover of a bound book will protect the
glue from direct ultraviolet irradiation.
