    IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When using your telephone equipment and installing this D-Kit, the following safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons. Read and understand all instructions. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the telephone. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, disconnect all cords before opening the telephone to install this D-Kit.
  • Page 3 Before cleaning, unplug the telephone from the modular wall jack. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. Unplug the telephone from the modular wall jack and refer servicing to qualified service personnel when these conditions exist: When the power supply cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
  • Page 4 The ISDN 8510T Firmware The following instructions will help you install a new EPROM, or replace the old EPROM, on an Asynchronous Data Board (ADB) or Telecommunications Multimedia Interface (TMI) board on an 8510T terminal. In this way, you can upgrade the terminal firmware to a later release.
  • Page 5 Removing the 8510T Terminal Stand After you have disconnected the cords, follow these directions for removing the desktop stand from the bottom of the terminal. Place the terminal face down on a flat surface. The Bar Code label on the bottom of the set should be toward you. Remove the screw on the lower center of the stand.

  • Page 8 You can do this by placing the pins on a flat, non-metallic surface and pushing on the chip body until the pins are straight. See Figure 4. Repeat this process on the other side of the EPROM. You may need to rock the EPROM back and forth against the NOTE: desk in order to bend the pins so that they fit the socket.
  • Page 9 EPROM Notch Notch FIGURE 5 Installing the New EPROM Into the Socket The EPROM D-Kit also includes a Feature Package label (which reads ‘‘ADB/TMI FEATURE PACKAGE x.x’’). Place the label on the underside of the base. See Figure 6. If there is already a Feature Package label on the base of the NOTE: terminal, place the new label over the old one.

  • Page 15 Connecting the 8510T to the System Next, reconnect the cords of the 8510T terminal. See Figure 1 for the location of the jacks. Plug in the line cord into the Line jack, and plug in the adjunct equipment cord into the Adjunct jack, if necessary. Turn the terminal right side up, with the front facing you.
