Chapter 1. Introduction

This Installation Instructions document contains information for installing and
configuring the Intel
BladeCenter
HS40 Type 8839 blade server.
The Intel Gigabit Ethernet Expansion Card has a dual-channel integrated
Gigabit Ethernet controller capable of connecting to either 10/100/1000-Mbps
networks through an Ethernet switch module or 1000 Mbps through other
supported I/O modules, on the BladeCenter unit. Communication signals are
routed from the blade server through the I/O expansion connectors on the
Intel Gigabit Ethernet Expansion Card to I/O-module bay 3 and bay 4 in the
BladeCenter unit.
Notes:
1. The modules in I/O-module bay 3 and bay 4 in the BladeCenter unit must
both be compatible with the Intel Gigabit Ethernet Expansion Card.
2. Unless otherwise stated, references to the BladeCenter unit also apply to
the BladeCenter T unit.
Your Intel Gigabit Ethernet Expansion Card comes with a limited warranty. For
information about your warranty, see Appendix B, "IBM Statement of Limited
