Initial commissioning

4.1

Structure

1. Remove the packaging and the transportation safety
devices on all parts delivered.
2. Connect the sensors at the measurement unit slots
provided (see Fig. 3).
Only connect amps clamp 30 A and 1000 A as well
as adapter line 1 684 465 513 if necessary.
3. Insert the printer into the trolley (fig. 1; item 8).
4. Plug in power supply cable and the USB connecting
cable to the printer. Both cables are provided ready
for connection in the trolley.
i
The printer cartridges can only be used when the
printer is switched on.
4.2

Prior to initial switch-on

The voltage supply is provided by the mains voltage
system. FSA 740 Edition is factory‑set to 100 V $ 230 V,
50/60 Hz. Note the relevant information on the label on
the device side of the FSA 740 Edition.
!
Before commissioning, make sure that the mains
voltage matches with the voltage set on the
FSA 740 Edition. If the FSA 740 Edition is operated
outdoors, it is advisable to use a voltage source pro‑
tected by a ground fault interrupter (GFI).
4.3

Language selection in Windows

Following initial switch‑on, the Windows operating sys‑
tem language can be selected from a menu.
The language cannot be changed later any more. Should
this nevertheless be necessary, contact your authorized
Bosch dealer.

Operation

5.1

Switching on / switching off

Switch the FSA 740 Edition on or off with the central
mains switch on the back of the unit (see fig. 2; item 5).
i
Before switching off the device, shut down the PC
using the Windows operating system. Leave the PC
switched off for at least 60 seconds before switch‑
ing on again.
i
When operating the FSA 740 Edition, faults may
occur if a PC or other components (e.g. mouse,
connecting cables) from suppliers other than Bosch
are used.

Notes on measurement

DANGER – Risk of electric shock if measure-
ments are taken on motor vehicles without
connecting cable B–!
Measurements taken with connecting cable
B– not connected to vehicle ground or the
battery negative terminal will result in injury,
heart failure or fatal electric shocks.
For all measurements, connect the
FSA 740 Edition by way of connecting
cable B– to vehicle ground or the battery
negative terminal.
DANGER – Risk of electric shock from ex-
cessively high measurement voltage!
The measurement of voltages in excess of
60 V DC/30 V AC/42 V ACpeak using CH1/
CH2 multi measurement cables will result in
injury, heart failure or fatal electric shocks.
Never use CH1/CH2 multi measurement
cable to measure mains or similar voltag‑
es.
!
Measurements with FSA 740 Edition are allowed
only in a dry environment.
!
The FSA 740 Edition is not to be used for measur‑
ing isolation from the supply on electric and hybrid
vehicles. Measurements on high‑voltage capacitor
ignitions are not allowed as voltage values greater
than 300 Volt may occur in this type of ignition.
!
Measurements on the passenger car piezo common
rail injector are only permitted with special adapter
cables (optional accessories).
!
The test prods supplied with the test prod set
(1 687 010 153) can only be used for measurements
below 30 volts.
