There are other non-fish objects that reflect or block sonar beams. They form different patterns on
the sonar screen. Learn to recognize these patterns to avoid misinterpreting them as fish schools.
4.1

Surface Noise

Surface noise appear near the top of the screen when the sea is rough or when your boat
passes over a wake. The effect can be reduced in the Clutter menu (see 3.3.1).
4.2

Colliding Currents

When two ocean currents of different temperature and direction collide, they form eddies
or gyres at the boundaries of the currents. They appear as long streaks of arcs on the
sonar screen.
