Changing Engine Oil

CAUTION
Engine damage. Verify proper type and quantity of
engine oil prior to starting engine. Failure to do so
could result in engine damage.
WARNING
Skin irritation. Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with
used motor oil. Used motor oil has been shown to cause
skin cancer in laboratory animals. Thoroughly wash
exposed areas with soap and water.
NOTE: Drain oil when engine is warm. Warm oil drains
more completely.
1. Clean area around oil fill.

4-14. Remove oil cap/dipstick (A).
3. Position a suitable oil receptacle beside oil fill tube.
4. Verify fuel filler cap (B) is securely tightened.

5. Tip machine over receptacle and drain oil out the
oil filler tube and into the receptacle
6. Add 14 oz (414 mL) of engine oil. See
for oil requirements.
7. Wait one minute for oil to settle.

hole without screwing it in and verify oil level is in
the crosshatched section (A).

9. If oil is low add a few ounces of oil at a time. Check
dipstick frequently to prevent overfill. Do not overfill
10. Install oil fill cap/dipstick and hand-tighten.

Servicing Spark Plug

To ensure the engine runs efficiently, the gap of the spark
plug must be correct. To service the spark plug:

Maintenance and Troubleshooting
1. Clean area around spark plug.
2. Remove spark plug.
3. clean the electrodes with a metal brush and
remove any build up.
4. See
Figure
4-16. Measure spark plug clearance
with a fueler gauge. The clearance should be .019-
.027 in (0.5-0.7 mm). If adjustment is necessary,
bend the side electrode carefully.

5. Replace spark plug if electrodes are pitted, burned
or porcelain is cracked. Use only a TORCH K7RTC
or equivalent.
6. Install spark plug finger tighten and tighten an addi-
tional 3/8 to 1/2 turn using spark plug wrench.

wheel on the ground using a 5/8" wrench.

2. Use a suitable lifting device and raise the machine
to allow wheel removal.
3. Remove the locknut and slide the wheel off.
4. Replace the wheel and finger tighten the locknut
before lowering the machine.
5. Tighten the locknut with the wheel on the ground.
