Power cord maintenance
• Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear
• Repairs should be carried out by an authorised GMC service centre
• This advice also applies to extension cords used with this tool
Hook and loop surfaces
• Hook and loop surfaces need to be clean, free of dirt and foreign matter, such as hair,
fibres, sand etc.
• In order to provide adequate adhesion for securing accessories, hook and loop surfaces
must be in good condition
• When used extensively, hooks and loops will become elongated or broken, and the
mechanism cannot provide the required strength of adhesion anymore
Note: The Sanding Base (8) is NOT a warranty item. Replacement bases can be obtained
through an authorised GMC service centre.
Replacing the carbon brushes
Note: This sander is supplied with one set of replacement brushes.
1. To access a carbon brush, first prise open the Removable Side Clips (2) on both sides of
the tool, using a wide slotted screwdriver, and remove both clips (Image G)

Troubleshooting

Problem
No function when On/Off Trigger Switch (3) is operated
Slow material removal
Scratches on workpiece after sanding
Burn marks on workpiece
Excessive dust emission
If the above troubleshooting solutions fail, contact your dealer or an authorised GMC service centre.
2. Use a small slotted screwdriver to unscrew the brush caps (Image H)
3. Remove the carbon brush assemblies (Image I)
4. Insert the new brush assemblies and replace the brush cap, tightening it with a
screwdriver
5. Replace the Removable Side Clips
Note: After replacing the brushes, you may notice sparking and a smell of burning when the
tool is first used. This is not a hazard. The excessive sparking and the burning smell should
subside as the new brushes bed in.
Storage
• Store this tool and its accessories after use in a secure place out of the reach of children
Disposal
Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no longer
functional and are not viable for repair.
• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE),
with household waste
• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct way to dispose
of power tools
Possible cause
No power
Defective On/Off Switch
Sanding sheet too fine or worn
Tool speed set too low
Sanding sheet too coarse
Not enough material removed
Sanding sheet incompatible with material
Tool speed set too high
Too much pressure exerted on to the sander
Dust extraction not working; sanding sheet not aligned with
dust extraction holes in the Sanding Base (8); extraction
holes blocked
Dust Canister (6) full
Dust Canister insufficient for the task at hand

Solution
Check if Power Indicator (5) is illuminated; check power
supply
Have the On/Off Switch replaced by an authorised GMC
service centre
Fit new sanding sheet with coarser grit
Increase tool speed
Fit new sanding sheet with finer grit
Continue sanding
Fit correct sanding sheet
Decrease tool speed
Use less pressure whilst moving the machine
Realign sanding sheet; unblock dust extraction holes
Empty Dust Canister
Connect a vacuum dust extraction system
