Make sure the battery charger is turned off and
unplugged before connecting the cables to the battery.
This prevents the possibility of sparks at the terminals,
which could ignite the battery gases.
1. Remove the caps
from the cells (1).
Add distilled water, if
necessary, to bring the
electrolyte up to the
proper level.
2. Connect the battery
to the charger. Set the charging rate at 1.9 amps,
plug in the charger and charge the battery for ten
hours.
NOTE:
If electrolyte temperature rises above 115° F.
(45° C) during charging, reduce the charging
rate to lower the temperature. Increase the
charging time.
3. After the battery is charged, check the fluid level.
If the level has dropped, add distilled water to
bring the electrolyte up to the proper level.
4. Check the results of charging. The specific gravity
of each cell must be 1.26 at room temperature. The
voltage should be 14.5-15.5 V during charging and
12.2-12.8 V after charging.
