Problem
Engine does not start.
Engine dies or accelerates poorly.
Spool retainer hard to turn.
Grass wraps around drive shaft housing
and string head.

Cause
Fuel mixture is too rich.
Fuel strainer clogged.
Fuel line clogged.
Flooded engine.
Spark plug gap is incorrect.
Air filter dirty.
Incorrect fuel.
Exhaust port / spark arrestor screen
blocked.
Screw threads are dirty or damaged.
Cutting tall grass at ground level.
Operating trimmer at part throttle.

Solution
Open choke.
Clean fuel strainer.
Clean fuel line.
Let unit sit for 15 minutes or remove spark
plug and clean per manual.
Replace or adjust spark plug per instructions.
Clean air filter.
Drain and fill with correct fuel/new fuel.
Clean exhaust port / Spark arrestor screen.
Clean threads and lubricate with grease – if
no improvement, replace the spool retainer.
Cut tall grass from the top down to prevent
wrapping.
Operate trimmer at full throttle.
