    RADIO AND TELEVISION INTERFERENCE This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.

    CHAPTER 2 GETTING STARTED When you set up your MakerBot Sketch™ 3D Printer, remember that it ® was built and packaged very carefully. We hope you will take your time and be just as careful unpacking it and getting it set up.

    Extruder to cool below 50°C. TURN ON YOUR MAKERBOT Sketch The power button for the MakerBot Sketch is located on the bottom right side of the printer. Toggle this switch to turn on your MakerBot Sketch. To turn off your MakerBot Sketch, toggle the switch the opposite direction .

    CHAPTER 3 GUIDED SETUP The first time you turn on your MakerBot Sketch™ 3D Printer, you will be ® guided through the setup process via the onboard touchscreen. From there, you will learn everything you need to know to start your first 3D print.
  • Page 15 NEW FIRMWARE UPDATE REQUIRED Having up to date firmware is one of the most important factors in getting the most out of your MakerBot Sketch. The first step in the setup process will make sure that your MakerBot Sketch is running the most up to date firmware.
  • Page 16 BUILD PLATE CALIBRATION The MakerBot Sketch will need to determine the height of the build plate. Adjust the nozzle of up or down so that it just touches the build plate. You should be able to slide a piece of paper under it with a little resistance. The printer may already be calibrated to start printing after unboxing.

    You can use these options to print objects from a USB flash drive on your MakerBot Sketch™ Performance 3D Printer or ® start prints initiated via MakerBot Print™ software. You can also change printer settings and monitor a print’s progress.

    A model file must be exported from the MakerBot Push the icon to select the Print Application and then location of the file you want to copied to a USB flash drive.

    MakerBot Print streamlines 3D print preparation and file management. PC users can also import and manipulate native CAD files. MakerBot Print allows you to Arrange, Orient, Scale, and View your 3D models and prepare them for print. You can also access print settings to modify your print.
  • Page 23 When you are ready to print your model, click PRINT in MakerBot Print to slice the model using the current settings and send a .makerbot print file to your MakerBot Sketch. You will be reminded to clear the build plate and asked to initiate the print on the touchscreen.

  • Page 25 REMOVING THE EXTRUDER The extruder can be removed with material still inside (it will have to be cut from the spool). We recommend unloading the material before removal. Be sure to power off the printer before removing or installing an extruder. To remove or swap the extruder follow the instructions below.

    Calibration should be run if you are noticing any print quality issues, or if the extruders are changed. You can access the calibration script on the MakerBot Sketch by going to Settings > Utilities > Calibration on the printer’s touch screen.

    Print files contain instructions for your MakerBot Sketch. MAKERBOT ACCOUNT: The username and password you will use to sign in to MakerBot Print, and log on to Thingiverse and other MakerBot sites. MAKERBOT PRINT SOFTWARE: Free software for use with your MakerBot Sketch.
