One of the most important topics is the maintenance of the winch. The endurance of a winch is
extremely shortened not only in case of misuse and overload, but also due to lack of care.
Make sure the winch is always clean and dry. On some setups this is, of course, not possible and the
winch is exposed to the weather influences all year long. In this case, care is essential.
1.
Check the strength of the assembly bolts and electrical connectors. Remove any dirt or rust and
always keep the device clean.
2.
Do not try to take apart the gearbox. Repairs must be carried out by the manufacturer or an
authorized service center.
3.
The gearbox was lubricated with a high-temperature lithium lubricant and was sealed in the factory.
Nevertheless, if the winch is exposed to water and salt more often, the winch has to be serviced
more often. Take the winch to an authorized service center. There, the contacts of the engine must
be cleaned and the gearbox must be checked for proper lubrication.
4.
The winch must be operated briefly at least every 3-5 weeks: Drive some turns off the rope and drive
back in, that can happen even without a load.
5.
As the gearbox gets louder, it's a sign that there's not enough grease in the gearbox – let a service
technician fill up the grease.
6.
Grease all electrical contacts with commercially available terminal grease. In particular, the front plug
of the remote control must always be well greased to prevent corrosion.
7.
Depending on the load on the winch, the engine must be revised all 40-60 operations. The coal
brushers and various other electrical components need to be maintained then.
8.
Depending on the strain of the winch, the relay must be replaced after 40-60 operations.
9.
The rope and hook must be subjected to a visual inspection after each use and need to be replaced,
if necessary.
10.
Maintain the ropes (see "winch rope 101")
11.
keep your winch clean. the chrome steel parts on the winch have a high strength and
therefore have a low part of chrome, that means these parts can oxidize. If the chrome
steel parts oxidize, take a bit of scotch brite and clean it. salt not only harms chrome coated
steel parts, but also seals, electrical components and powder coating. if the powder coating
is damaged, it must be repaired, otherwise it will be infiltrated and can flare off on a large
scale. a clean rope has a longer endurance. keep the electrical contacts clean and lubricate
them with suitable gerase. maintain the ropes (► rope 101).
Important information!
All maintenance work in which the winch is opened or dismantled must be carried out by an authorized
specialist retailer.
