Ratio of measurement distance-surface measured (distance to spot ratio; D/S)
With increasing distance between measurement device and measurement object, the diameter of the
measured area increases (measured surface).
The diameter of the lit-up light point (target beam) is smaller than the diameter of the measured
surface and is thus intended only for aiming.
Spot s:
Diameter of the measured surface in mm.
Distance D:
Distance between housing (escape area of the infrared beam) and measured object
in mm.
Fig. 26: Ratio measurement distance-measured surface
(D + 20) / s = 5,7 / 1
The defined measurement distance for a good measurement result is between 135 mm and 310 mm. The
optimal measurement distance, which achieves the most precise measurement result, is 200 mm.
