VII. PLANNED MAINTENANCE
BATTERY CARE
IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS
YOU WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.
EXPLOSIVE GASSES
Smoking, flames, or sparks will result
in battery explosions.

Keep tools away from terminals
to avoid sparks or shorting.
Battery contains sulphuric acid which
causes severe burns if touched.
If acid touches skin or eyes. flush
with water and get medical help
immediately.
Pull the main battery connector and raise
the drive wheels before starting any work on
or around electrical parts.
Follow instructions from battery charger
manufacturers and your employer when
changing batteries.
Use only the proper size and weight battery.
(See Data Plate) Maximum battery clearance
must be less than 112 inch total
in any direction.
Avoid battery damage. Always keep battery
adequately charged.
Change or charge battery if the battery
capacity indicator begins to flash
when standing still and raising empty forks.
Use only clean distilled water. Check
electrolyte level and specific gravity every
week. Keep level at the mark in the vent.
Keep battery case and compartment clean
and dry.

Batteries are very heavy and can injure y o u if improperly handled. They
can explode violently if mishandled and are filled with a strong acid that
can burn you.
Always follow servicing instructions from the battery manufacturer and
your employer.
