Symptom or Error Message
Disk drive select
light is on, but
terminal has no
response to power.
On a system with
two disk units,
the bottom left
drive select light
comes on when power
is turned on.
Diskette may have
read errors.
No messages; only
cursor and keys typed
on keyboard appear on
video screen.
5n5n5n5n5n ...
After resetting terminal
and selecting a drive
with a diskette
correctly loaded,
nothing happens (no error
message appears).
Probable Cause
Power cable from
disk unit to terminal
is unplugged or
switches are off.
Power harness is not
attached to expansion
backplane.
Terminal power supply
Expansion backplane
The two disk
units are installed
in reverse order.
Terminal powers up
in local mode.
Terminal is set up
for VT52 format.
The diskette installed
in the disk drive is
blank.
Corrective Action
Check for correct
daisy chain of power
through each disk
unit to the terminal.
Check setting of
on / off (1 /0) switches
on each disk unit
and on back of
terminal.
Check power harness.
Replace.
Replace backplane.
See Chapter 2 for
correct installation
of disk units.
Enter SET-UP A and
place terminal on-line.
Save this setting by
pressing SHIFT and S at
the same time.
Enter SET-UP Band
change the ANSI / VT52
feature to ANSI format.
Save this feature by
pressing SHIFT and S at
the same time.
Remove the diskette and
load the system diskette
in disk drive A.
