Ex-e cable entries (KLE);
Ex-e blanking plugs

for connecting boxes

Ex-e cable entries (KLE) and Ex-e blanking
plugs may be threaded only into connection
boxes.
If Ex-e cable feeds and entries (KLE) or Ex-e
blanking plugs are used in Ex-d enclosures,
the Ex-d protection class is no longer
provided.
Generally only certified cable entries and
blanking plugs may be used. Flexible cables
shall be used with trumpet-shaped cable
glands or other suitable entries with
additional strain relief.
The relevant mounting directives for the
built-in cables entries shall be observed.
When using cable entries with a degree of
protection that is lower than the IP protec-
tion of the apparatus (see Technical Data,
page 3), the degree of IP protection for the
complete unit is reduced.
In order to ensure the minimum degree of
protection, any unused entry holes shall be
sealed with certified blanking plugs.
When fitting cable entries, care has to be taken
that the sealing inserts are suitable for the cable
diameter.
If using cut-out seal inserts, it is necessary to
ensure that the insert is properly adapted to
the cable diameter.
In order to ensure the required minimum
degree of protection, the cable entries shall
be tightened down securely.
Overtightening can impair the degree of
protection.
Warning: When tightening the cap nut of
metal cable entries (e.g. type ADE..), a
suitable tool shall be used to stop the gland
from twisting.
Any unused metric Cooper Crouse-Hinds /
EATON moulded plastic cable entries shall be
sealed with the blanking plug certified for these
metric cable entries.

6.3.1 Ex-d cable entries / Ex-d blanking plug
for control station / distributions
Generally only suitable certified flameproof
cable entries and certified flameproof
blanking plugs according to IEC/EN 60079-0
and IEC/EN 60079-1 may be used.
The operating temperature range shall
be taken into consideration.
When selecting the cable entries, the
volume of the Ex-d enclosure shall be
taken into consideration.
When using cable entries with a degree of
protection that is lower than the IP protection of
the apparatus (see Technical Data), the degree
of IP protection for the complete unit is
reduced.
The relevant mounting directives for flameproof
cables entries and blanking plugs shall be
observed.
Attention: When tightening the cap nut of
the metal cable entries, a suitable tool shall
be used to stop the gland from twisting.
In order to guarantee and/or establish
X
ATEX - IEC
the explosion protection, unused entry holes
shall be sealed with a certified flameproof
blanking plug.

Assembly/dismantling
Actuating elements
Actuating elements are to be assembled as
shown in Fig. 3 and described as follows:
a To ensure explosion protection, it is
important that explosion-proof enclosures
have the correct threads.
Thread size M22 x 1.5 (ISO 965, medium).
Threaded holes must satisfy the minimum
requirements of IEC/EN 60079-1.
The walls of explosion-proof enclosures
must be >= 10 mm thick.
The grid spacing between entry fittings
and control elements specified by the
manufacturer shall be 1.5 times the hole
diameter and shall guarantee both the
clearances and creepage distances between
actuated elements and the mechanical
integrity of the enclosure.
The threads shall not be damage or soiled.
Grease the threads lightly to prevent corrosion.
Preferred lubricant:
Renocal FN 745/94,
Renolit Unitemp 2
(Synthetic-based Sodium complex grease NLGI 2,
strongly resistant to ageing and water wash off,
good mechanical stability,
Temperature range: -50 °C to +180 °C,
over short time spans: -50 °C to 200 °C).
1. Screw in the actuator or display element,
together with the seal, into the M22 x 1.5
threads by hand from the front until the seal
reached and then turn it 90° more.
2. Put on and lock contact block.
3. Align contact block and actuator elements
as required. It can be turned back by
max. 90° to align.
!
It shall be installed in the electrical apparatus
in such a way that it is safeguarded against
twisting and loosening.
4. Use a suitable tool to tighten the lock nut
securely (test torque 3.2 Nm).
a Overtightening can damage the control
elements.
a To ensure and/or provide explosion
protection, unused entry openings shall be
sealed with certified explosion-proof
blanking plugs.
