12. INTRODUCTION

Your
Power
for Health
The CheckScanner™ 2.0 is a PC-controlled biochip fl uorescence scanner for the general
laboratory use in combination with the CheckReport™Software. It is designed to scan with high
performance ready-to-use microarrays on HTA™Slides manufactured for Greiner Bio-One.
Subsequent scans of the microarray are performed at two different wavelengths. The output of
the instrument are TIFF images which are evaluated using the CheckReport™Software.
The independent scanning of up to four HTA™Slides is automatically carried out in one scan job
according to specifi c scan protocols.
Many features of the CheckScanner™ system have been designed to maximise operator comfort
and thereby minimise the chance of errors.

13. SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The compact CheckScanner™ 2.0 is composed of the bench top instrument, an external power
supply and the controlling computer (Windows PC). Instrument and PC are connected to network
or directly via LAN cable.
Apart from the on/off-switch and the factory reset button the user interaction with the instrument
is limited to loading/unloading the HTA™Slides.
The default LAN settings are:
IP address 192.168.15.245 // subnetmask: 255.255.255.0 // gateway: 192.168.15.245 // port:
6668
A loading lid protects the operator from inadvertent contact with moving parts, and shields the
measuring optics from ambient light during scanning. All further instrument control steps are
processed by means of the CheckReport™Software.

14. INSTALLATION

Although the CheckScanner™ 2.0 will typically be unpacked and installed by your local
distributor, a technically skilled person may install the instrument as well. This is particularly useful
if the system needs to be relocated. This section describes the process required to connect the
instrument to the computer as well as to prepare the software installation.
The CheckScanner™ 2.0 must be placed on a fi rm (laboratory) bench avoiding potential vibration
or shaking due to instrument's scanning oscillation. After the setup the scanner should not be
moved. Please take the following precautions:

As the sound of the instrument is far below 70dB(A), no extra precautions are needed.

CheckScanner™ 2.0 - Instructions for Use
Revision: BQ-686-01 /March 2017
As the instrument weights over 22 kg, it must be solely lifted (or transported) by two
persons.
Be sure to grip with your fi ngers underneath the solid metal baseplate. The rubber feet
allow enough space between instrument and the benchtop.
Adequate space should be provided for accessing the system and the accessories:
a) For loading the slides from front during daily use
b) To have access to the mains switch at the right handed rear panel, (as well as to the
plug-in for the 24V-connection of the external AC-adapter at the left handed rear panel)
c) A gap of at least 10 cm behind the instrument is needed for ventilation.
d) The mains plug of the external AC adapter within the power socket (230V) of your lab
must be easily accessible at any time.
Before starting the CheckScanner™ 2.0 installation the transit support screws need to be
removed. Please follow the instructions below.
