Before using for the first time
Burning in the Teppan Yaki
plate
You need to "burn in" the Teppan Yaki
plate before you can cook food on it.
This prevents food from sticking to it
and protects the surface from
moisture.
Preparing the Teppan Yaki plate for
burning in
 Push the Teppan Yaki plate control
knob in and turn it anti-clockwise to
the large flame symbol .
 Heat the Teppan Yaki plate for
30 minutes.
 After 30 minutes turn the Teppan Yaki
plate off and let it cool down.
The Teppan Yaki plate will be
permanently discoloured after heating
up. The discolouration can increase
over time. This will not affect the
functionality in any way.
 Place a maximum of 1 teaspoon of
vegetable oil with a high flash-point in
the centre of the cooled Teppan Yaki
plate and wipe it over it with paper
towel. Do not oil the corners.
Useful tip: Do not use too much oil.
Excess oil leaves behind a rubbery
substance that needs to be removed.

Carrying out the burning in

During the burning in process, the
Teppan Yaki plate acquires a kind of
anti-stick coating that prevents food
from sticking. The Teppan Yaki plate
turns a noticeably darker colour.
 Remove excess oil with paper towel.
 Push the control knob in and turn it
anti-clockwise to the large flame
symbol .
 Heat the Teppan Yaki plate for 1 hour.
Smoke may develop while the Teppan
Yaki plate is heating up. This is normal.
 Switch off the Teppan Yaki plate.
 When the Teppan Yaki plate has
cooled down sufficiently so that it can
be touched, remove excess oil with
paper towel.
 Repeat the process twice more when
the Teppan Yaki plate has cooled
down completely.
