GENERAL INFO ABOUT WIRES & INSTALLATION
To install this SPECTRON amplifier, you will need additional wiring and connection
accessories like power cables, RCA interconnects, fuse holders, etc. To obtain best
performance from your amp, it is recommended to use good quality accessories
only. Furthermore, consider a safe mounting of the amp, in a place that offers
sufficient ventilation.
Because of possible interference problems with the existing car electrics and elec-
tronics - especially the routing of the RCA signal cables and the chassis ground
connection are absolutely crucial.
And always choose a place, where you can be sure nothing gets damaged behind
or below the panel by drilling the holes for the amplifier mounting screws. After
installation, there should be a clearance of at least 5cm to all sides!
MAIN POWER CABLE CROSS SECTION
The minimum power cable cross-section for this SPECTRON amplifier is 8-10mm
2
.
If you intend to bridge the amplifier, or if you intend to branch two or more ampli-
fiers to the same battery or main power cable, the minimum cross section should
be approx. 16-20mm
2
.
These recommendations guarantee trouble-free operation of your amp, giving you
full power output. Using main power cables with smaller cross sections, will result
in over-heating of the amplifier circuitry and an elevated distortion level. Main leads
with inferior cross section can also trigger the thermal protection circuitry, shutting
down the amp because it gets too hot.
RCA INTERCONNECTS
Use at least double shielded RCA interconnect cables. Keep in mind, that the RCA
interconnects should always be routed and kept far away from any potential sour-
ces of electrical interference. For example always avoid to cross electronic vehicle
management systems (engine computers, relays etc.) fuel pumps, wiring harnesses
etc.
MINIMUM SPEAKER IMPEDANCES
The internal electronic circuitry as well as the heat dissipation capacity of the ampli-
fier's heatsink has been designed to cope with 2 ohm impedance loads in stereo
configuration. Therefore, you can drive 4 to 2 ohm satellite speaker systems – or a
4 ohm subwoofer system in bridged operation mode. Do NOT operate this SPEC-
TRON amplifier bridged into 2 ohm loads!!!!
