LOCAL CODES

Install and use fi rebox with care. The installation
must conform with local codes or in the absence
of local codes, to the latest edition of The National
Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA54*. Firebox
must be electrically grounded in accordance with
the National Electrical Code, ANS/NFPA70* (latest
edition).

COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS RE-
QUIREMENTS
These appliances are approved for installation in
the US state of Massachusetts if the following ad-
ditional requirements are met:
• Un-vented Room Heaters shall be installed in
accordance with 527 CMR 30.
• Installation and repair must be done by a
plumber or gas fi tter licensed in the Common-
wealth of Massachusetts.
• The fl exible gas line connector used shall not
exceed 36 inches (92 centimeters) in length.
• The individual manual shut-off must be a T-
handle type valve.
• Un-vented appliances may NOT be installed in
bedrooms or bathrooms.
• A working smoke detector must be installed
in the area where vent-free appliances are in-
stalled.
Seller of un-vented propane or natural gas-fi red
supplemental room heaters shall provide to each
purchaser a copy of 527 CMR 30 upon sale of the
unit.

UNPACKING

CAUTION: Do not remove the data
plates attached to the heater base as-
sembly. The data plates contain impor-
tant warranty and safety information.
1. With utility knife, cut the carton all the way
around above the staples on the bottom tray.
Lift the carton off the heater. Remove packing.
NOTE: The hood is located in the packing on the
right hand side of the heater front. Lift the heater
off the bottom tray.

2. Locate two screws above top corners of the
fi replace screen. Remove and discard these
screws. Push the bottom corners of the screen
in and release. The screen will pop out at the
bottom. Grasp the bottom of the screen, lift the
screen up and pull out to remove.
3. Remove protective packaging applied to logs,
log base assembly, and fi replace.
4. Remove fi replace hood from carton inserts.
5. Check all items for any shipping damage. If
damaged, promptly inform dealer where you
purchased the fi replace.
OPERATION
This vent-free fi replace is clean burning. It requires
no outside venting. There is no heat loss out a vent
or up a chimney. Heat is generated by both realistic
fl ames and glowing embers. When used without the
blower, the fi replace requires no electricity making it
ideal for emergency backup heat.
SAFETY DEVICE
This fi replace has a pilot with an Oxygen Depletion
Sensing (ODS) safety shutoff system. The ODS/pilot
is a required feature for vent-free room heaters. The
ODS/pilot system shuts off the fi replace if there is
not enough fresh air.
PIEZO IGNITION SYSTEM
This fi replace has a piezo igniter. This system
requires no matches, batteries, or other sources
to light fi replace.
OPTIONAL REMOTE CONTROL
ACCESSORY
There are fi ve optional remote controls (not included)
that can be purchased separately for this log heater:
• GWMS2 wall switch
• GWMT1 wall thermostat
• TSRC hand-held touch-screen thermostat re-
mote
• RCKIT4001 hand-held On/Off remote
• TRC hand-held Thermostat/On/Off remote

BLOWER ASSEMBLY ACCESSORY
This fireplace includes a blower assembly. The
blower operates thermostatically and features a
variable speed control. The blower circulates
