OBSERVED PROBLEM
Moisture/condensation noticed
on windows
Heater produces a whistling
noise when burners are lit
White powder residue forming
within burner box or on adjacent
walls or furniture
Remote does not function
Excessive yellow fl ame in front
burner during burner combustion
Fireplace produces a clicking/
ticking noise just after burner is
lit or shut off
Dark residue on logs inside of
their fi replace
NOTE: After removing all causes
of residue deposits, completely
clean fi replace and appliance off
residue before reusing appliance

POSSIBLE CAUSE
1. Not enough combustion/
ventilation air
1. Turning control knob to HI posi-
tion when burners are cold
2. Air in gas line
3. Air passageways on heater
blocked
4. Dirty or partially clogged
burner orifi ce(s)
1. When heated, vapors from
furniture polish, wax, carpet
cleaners, etc. may turn into
white powder residue
1. Battery is not installed. Bat-
tery power is low
1. Incorrect ember placement
2. Incorrect orifi ce
3. Not enough air
4. Gas regulator defectiv
1. Metal expanding while heating
or contracting while cooling
1. Improper log placement
2. Drafts or other air currents
affecting fl ame pattern
3. Air holes at burner inlet
blocked
4. Burner fl ame holes blocked

REMEDY
1. Refer to Air for Combustion
and Ventilation requirements
(Page 6)
1. Turn control knob to LO position
and let warm up for a minute
2. Operate burners until air is
removed from line. Have gas
line checked by local natural
or propane/LP gas company
3. Observe minimum installation
clearances (see Page 11)
4. Clean burners (see Cleaning
and Maintenance, Page 25)
or replace burner orifi ce(s)
1. Turn heater off when using
furniture polish, wax, carpet
cleaners, or similar products
1. Replace 9-volt batteries in
receiver and remote control
1. Read EMBER PLACEMENT
and correct per instructions
2. Replace orifi ce. Call technical
service
3. Check burner(s) for dirt
and debris. If found, clean
burner(s) (see Cleaning and
Maintenance, Page 25)
4. Replace gas regulator
1. This is normal with most heat-
ers. If noise is excessive, con-
tact qualifi ed service person
1. Properly locate logs (see
Installing Logs, Page 17)
2. Eliminate source of drafts
around heater
3. Clean out air holes at burner
inlet. Periodically repeat as
needed
4. Remove blockage
