• Place pressure-limiting valve on exhaust pipe.
• To begin the cooking process, place Pressure Cooker
on a burner set on high. As pressure builds in the
cooker, steam will begin to escape through the exhaust
pipe. The pressure-limiting valve will rise on the exhaust
pipe until steam escapes at a rapid level, making a loud
hissing or sputtering sound, and a few drops of water
may trickle from the limiting valve – this is all normal.
Begin specified cooking time from this moment.
caution: Do not attempt to remove the pressure-
limiting valve at any time during the cooking cycle.
• If steam should escape from around the edge of the
cooker cover and pressure fails to rise, cool Pressure
Cooker under cold running water for 1 to 3 minutes.
Remove pressure-limiting valve and open Pressure Cooker. Wipe away any debris
that may have accumulated. Begin cooking process again.
• Reduce heat to a medium/low setting. At the proper setting the limiting valve
should jiggle about 1 to 3 times per minute. Constant jiggling indicates too high a
temperature. The occasional jiggle and hissing sound ensures that proper pressure
is being maintained. Continue at this heat setting until remaining cooking time is
completed.
• When pressure has been maintained for the required length of time, remove cooker
from heat source and allow pressure to drop before removing pressure-limiting valve.
Allowing pressure to drop normally without cooling under running water takes about 3
to 15 minutes depending upon the amount of food in the Pressure Cooker. However,
many recipes call for instant reduction of pressure by placing the cooker under cold
running water for 1 to 3 minutes.
• After reducing pressure by either method, lightly touch pressure-limiting valve with
a utensil to ensure that pressure has been reduced. If steam is still present, follow
the previously mentioned steps to reduce pressure. If no steam is present, you may
remove the pressure-limiting valve. To unlock the upper and lower handles, move the
pushing plate forward with your thumb in the direction indicated by the arrow. While
holding the pushing plate forward, rotate the cooker cover counter clockwise until the
arrows on the cooker cover and lower handle align with each other. Then, gently lift up
the cooker cover handle to open. Cooker cover should slide open with ease. DO NOT
try to force the handles apart. If handles do not slide apart easily, check the pressure-
indicating valve to note that it is in the full down position. If it is not down fully, repeat
the previous steps to reduce pressure.
• All the parts of this Pressure Cooker, including the sealing ring and pressure-limiting
valve, are made to be fully immersed in water and should be washed after each use.
Be sure to remove the blockage guard and wash it thoroughly. Also, wash and inspect
the exhaust pipe to ensure it is clean and free of debris. Thoroughly dry all parts of the
pressure cooker before storing and be sure to properly reinstall the blockage guard.
