Ensure that the spring housing is
properly seated in the mount
(arrows).
If the rewind spring pops out during
installation, fit it in the spring
housing as follows:

– Arrange the spring (1) as shown
in the illustration.
: Position the anchor loop in the
fixture (arrow) in the spring
housing.

: Fit the rewind spring (1)
completely in a circular fashion,
working in clockwise direction.
– Secure the spring so that it
cannot pop out.
– Slide the spring housing into the
mount in the starter cover until it
engages there.

– Secure the rewind spring so that
it cannot pop out.
: If necessary, align the inner
spring loop (arrow) with suitable
pliers so that it rests against the
starter post at a slight angle.
– Install the rope rotor, b 9.4.
– Install the pawl, b 9.3.
– Grease the pegs on the pawl,
b 14.
– Tension the rewind spring,
b 9.6.
– Reassemble remaining parts in
reverse order.
– Tightening torques, b 3.5.
