(on 130 mm diameter)

Actual condition
Wear marks or scoring
around the mount for the
cutting wheel
Axial runout
< 0.15 mm
> 0.15 mm
Damage or unevenness in
the mating faces of the
thrust washers (particularly
the inner thrust washer),
mating faces are not plane,
use of parts which are not
original STIHL parts
Spindle (shaft) damaged
Tangible radial backlash in
the bearing seat → spindle
bearing faulty
Possible causes
Operation with loose
fastening screw, use of the
wrong cutting wheels
(mount dia. > 20 mm)
Dirt, incorrectly fitted thrust
washers or cutting wheel,
use of force when cutting or
during transport
Incorrect handling, use of
force
Grooved ball bearings
damaged by dust and/or
bearing seat worn at the
spindle
Remedy
Replace spindle (shaft),
use correct cutting
wheel
None
Replace the thrust
washers
Replace spindle (shaft)
Replace spindle and
grooved ball bearings
