DRIVE CHAIN

Refer to the
safety precautions on page 45.
The service life of the "Drive Chain" (1)
is dependent upon proper lubrication and
adjustment. Poor maintenance can cause
premature wear or damage to the drive
chain and sprockets.
The drive chain should be checked and
lubricated as part of the pre-ride Inspection
(page 38). Under severe usage, or when
the vehicle is ridden in unusually dusty or
muddy areas, more frequent maintenance
will be necessary.
Inspection:
1. Turn the engine off, place the vehicle on
its
side
stand,
transmission into neutral.
2. Move the chain up and down with
your finger. Drive chain slack should
be adjusted approximately to allow the
following vertical movement by hand:

20-30 mm (0.8 - 1.2 in)

again. Repeat this procedure several
times. Drive chain slack should remain
constant. If the chain is slack only in
certain sections, some links are kinked
and binding. Binding and kinking can be
eliminated by lubrication.

4. Roll the vehicle forward. Stop and place
it on its side stand. Inspect the drive
chain and sprockets for any of the
following conditions :
