5. Coordinate the throttle and brakes for
smooth
deceleration.
6. Both front and rear brakes should be
used at the same time and should not be
applied strongly enough to lock the
wheel, or braking effectiveness will be
reduced and control of the vehicle
be difficult.

BRAKING

Your vehicle is equipped with a hydraulically-
activated disc brake in front and rear.
Operating the brake lever applies the front
disc brake. Pressing the brake pedal applies
the rear disc brake.
For normal braking, apply both the brake
pedal and lever while down-shifting to
match your road speed. For maximum
braking, close the throttle and firmly apply
the pedal and lever; pull in the clutch
lever before coming to a complete stop to
prevent stalling the engine.

When descending a long, steep grade,
use engine compression braking by
downshifting, with intermittent use of
both brakes.
Continuous
brake
overheat the brakes and reduce their
effectiveness.
