TROUBLESHOOTING
ENGINE SPEED DOES NOT INCREASE OR
STABILIZE
Check the air cleaner element (page 3-4, 3-5).
Clean
Check the valve clearance (page 3-7).
Normal
Check the spark plug (page 3-6).
Normal
Check the main jet for blockage (page 6-7).
Clear
Check for secondary air leak.
No air leaking
Check the cylinder compression (page 12-5).
Normal
Check the governor system is installed correctly
(page 7-3, 7-6).
Normal
Check the ignition coil air gap (page 8-6).
Normal
Check the ignition coil (page 8-7).
Replace the ignition coil if abnormalities are
found, and recheck.

Clean the air cleaner element (page 3-5).

Adjust the valve clearance (page 3-8).
Abnormal
Inspect the spark plug and adjust the spark plug
gap. Replace if necessary (page 3-6).

Disassemble and clean the carburetor
(page 6-7).
Air leaking
Check around the air intake joint and carburetor;
replace the insulator and/or gasket if necessary.
Compression
is too high
Check for carbon deposits in the combustion
chamber (page 3-8).
Check that the cylinder head is correctly

Check for defective cylinder head gasket, valves,
or valve seats (page 12-3, 12-6, 12-7).
Check for worn piston, piston rings, or cylinder
inner surface (page 13-6, 13-7, 13-8, 13-9).

Adjust or replace the faulty part(s).

Adjust the ignition coil air gap (page 8-6).
