The numbers or letters of 5 characters are
displayed on the front panel display.
/ Self-diagnosis function was activated. See the
table in page 59 and treat the player appropriately.
Sound
There is no sound.
/ Check that the player is connected securely.
/ The audio connecting cord is damaged. Replace it
with a new one.
/ Make sure you connect the player to the audio
input connectors on the receiver (amplifier) (page
12).
/ Make sure you turn on the TV and the receiver
(amplifier).
/ Make sure you select the appropriate position on
the receiver (amplifier) so that you can listen to the
sound from the player.
/ The player is in pause mode or in Slow-motion
Play mode. Press · to return to normal play
mode.
/ Fast forward (FF1) orFF 2)) or fast reverse
(FR10 or FR20) is performed.

/ When you play the DTS sound tracks on a CD,
sound noise will come out from the LINE OUT
(AUDIO 1, 2) and PHONES connectors (page 52).
Sound distortion occurs.
/ In the setup display, set "AUDIO ATT" in "AUDIO
SETUP" to "ON" (page 50).
The sound loses stereo effect when you play a
VIDEO CD or a CD.
/ Set "AUDIO" to "STEREO" in the Control Menu
display (page 32).
/ Make sure you connect the player appropriately
(pages 10, 12, 14, 15).
The surround effect is difficult to hear when you
are playing a Dolby Digital sound track.
/ Check the speaker connections and setting (pages
14, 53). Refer to the operating manual of your
receiver (amplifier).
/ Depending on the DVD, the output signal may not
be the entire 5.1 channel but monaural or stereo
even if the sound track is recorded in Dolby Digital
format.
The sound comes from the center speaker only.
/ Depending on the disc, the sound may come from
the center speaker only.
The sound comes from the front speaker only.
/ You set "VES" to "VES A" or "VES B" in the
Control Menu display when you have connected
the rear speakers (page 35). Select the other item.
Operation
The remote does not function.
/ Remove any obstacles between the remote and the

/ Use the remote near the player.
/ Point the remote at the remote sensor g on the
player.
/ Replace all the batteries in the remote with new
ones if they are weak.
The disc does not play.
/ There is no disc inside ("Insert disc." appears on
the TV screen).
Insert a disc.
/ Insert the disc correctly with the playback side
facing down.
/ Clean the disc.
/ "ERROR" appears on the front panel display if a
disc such as CD-ROMs (page 5) which the player
cannot play was inserted.
Insert a DVD, a VIDEO CD, or a CD.
/ Check the region code of the DVD (page 4).
/ Moisture has condensed inside the player. Remove
the disc and leave the player turned on for about
half an hour (page 6).
/ "ERROR" appears on the front panel display if a
disc was placed upside down.
Insert the disc with playing side facing down.
