8.4 Operating modes
The following table shows the conditions under which the operating modes change:

POWER ON →
After switching on, the CPU goes into "STARTUP" mode, if:
STARTUP
Non-retentive memory is cleared, and the content of non-retentive DBs
is reset to the start values of the load memory. Retentive memory and
retentive DB contents are retained.
POWER ON → STOP After switching on, the CPU goes to "STOP" mode if:
Non-retentive memory is cleared, and the content of non-retentive DBs
is reset to the start values of the load memory. Retentive memory and
retentive DB contents are retained.
STOP → STARTUP
The CPU goes into the "STARTUP" operating mode, if:
Non-retentive memory is cleared, and the content of non-retentive DBs
is reset to the start values of the load memory. Retentive memory and
retentive DB contents are retained.
STARTUP → STOP
The CPU returns to the "STOP" operating mode in the following cases
of "START-UP":
STARTUP → RUN
The CPU goes to the "RUN" mode in the following cases of
"START-UP":
RUN → STOP
The CPU returns to the "STOP" operating mode in the following cases
of "RUN":
The hardware configuration and program blocks are consistent.
The start-up type "Warm restart RUN" is set
or
the start-up type "Warm restart operating mode before POWER
OFF" is set and was in RUN mode before POWER OFF.
The hardware configuration and program blocks are consistent
or
the "No restart" startup type is set.
The hardware configuration and program blocks are consistent.
The CPU is set to "RUN" by the programming device or via the
display and the mode selector are in the RUN position
or
the mode selector is switched from STOP to RUN.
An error is detected during start-up.
The CPU is set to "STOP" mode from the programming device.
A STOP command is executed in the Startup OB.
The CPU has initialized the PLC tags.
The CPU has executed the startup blocks successfully.
An error is detected that prevents continued processing.

display or the mode selector.
