Problem
Engine does not
start.
Engine runs rough.
Engine overheats.
Engine runs when
ignition key is in the
off position.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Probable Cause
PTO knob is in the on position.
Fuel tank is empty.
Fuel supply is contaminated.
Battery is not charged.
Battery cables are loose or
corroded.
Spark plug wire is loose or spark
plug is faulty.
Electrical system is faulty.
Engine is faulty.
Choke control knob is in on
position.
Fuel tank is empty.
Spark plug is faulty.
Fuel filter is dirty.
Air filter cartridge is plugged.
Engine is faulty.
Engine oil level is low.
Cooling fins are plugged.
Engine is faulty.
Ignition ground wire is
disconnected.
Ignition switch is faulty.
Correction
Push PTO knob in to off position.
Fill fuel tank. See Before Operation
on page 12.
Replace with clean fuel.
Charge battery. See Charge Battery
on page 19.
Clean and tighten cables. See Clean
Battery on page 19.
Connect spark plug wire or replace
spark plug. Refer to engine manual.
Determine cause and repair. See
Replace Fuses And Relays on
page 20.
Contact your Gravely dealer.
Move knob to off position.
Fill fuel tank. See Before Operation
on page 12.
Replace spark plug. Refer to engine
manual.
Clean or replace filter. Refer to
engine manual.
Clean or replace air filter cartridge.
Refer to engine manual.
Contact your Gravely dealer.
Add engine oil. Refer to engine
manual.
Clean engine. Refer to engine
manual.
Contact your Gravely dealer.
Connect ground wire to clean, metal
surface.
