Step 4: Analyze the heart rhythm

When the AED prompts...
"Do Not Touch Patient. Analyzing Heart
Rhythm. Please Wait. "
The AED begins analyzing the cardiac
rhythm of the patient.
During the analysis phase, you may hear one or more of these prompts:
If the AED prompts...
"Make sure pad connector
is plugged into AED. "
"Press pads firmly to
patient's bare skin. "
"Analysis interrupted. Stop
patient motion. "
The AED restarts the
analysis.

Do this...
Do not touch the patient.
Wait for the next prompt.
This is the problem...
The pads are disconnected
from the AED.
The pads are not properly
placed or are loose.
The patient is excessively
jostled or there is a strong
electromagnetic emitting
device nearby (within 5
meters).

Do this...
Ensure that the connector
is properly plugged into
the AED.
Ensure that pads are firmly
placed on clean, dry skin.
Remove the electronic
device or stop the excessive
motion.
