Shutting down the degraded controller

You can shut down or take over the degraded controller using different procedures, depending on the
storage system hardware configuration.
Shutting down the controller
To shut down the degraded controller, you must determine the status of the controller and, if necessary, take
over that controller so that the healthy controller continues to serve data for the degraded controller's
storage.
Step 1.
If the degraded controller is part of an HA pair, disable automatic giveback from the console of the
healthy controller using the following command: storage failover modify -node local -auto-
giveback false
Take the degraded controller to the LOADER prompt by typing halt.
Step 2.
If the degraded controller is displaying...
The LOADER prompt
Waiting for giveback...
System prompt or password prompt
Step 3.
Turn off the power supplies, and then unplug the degraded controller's power cords from the
power source.

Replacing the controller module hardware

To replace the controller module hardware, you must remove the degraded controller, move FRU
components to the replacement controller module, install the replacement controller module in the chassis,
and then boot the system to Maintenance mode.

Press Ctrl-C, and then respond y when
prompted.
Take over or halt the degraded controller:
• For an HA pair, take over the degraded
controller from the healthy controller:
storage failover takeover -ofnode impaired_
node_name
When the degraded controller shows
Waiting for giveback..., press Ctrl-C, and
then respond y.
