In direct communication you assign a diagnostic address in the recipient:

During configuration you specify a
diagnostic address in the recipient that is
assigned to the sender.
By means of this diagnostic address the
recipient obtains information on the
status of the sender or a bus interruption
(see also Table 1-20).

OB 86 is called with the message Station failure
(incoming event; diagnostic address of the recipient assigned
to the sender)
In the case of I/O access: OB 122
