General Troubleshooting Guide

Problem
Engine cranks but will
not start
Engine will not crank
(electric start)
Engine starts but stops
shortly thereafter
Engine running is
unstable

Cause
No fuel.
Insufficient oil level.
PAS is ON.
Air in fuel system.
Clogged fuel filter.
Gelled fuel.
Injection pump failure.
Electromagnetic type fuel pump failure.
Engine control system failure.
LCD panel shows engine failure.
Clogged strainer.
Pre-heating device failure.
Restricted air flow.
Discharged battery.
Battery terminal is disconnected, loose, or
corroded.
Starter ground terminal is disconnected,
loose, or corroded.
Excessive engine oil viscosity.
Starter or electrical system failure.
Engine seized.
Low idle.
Clogged fuel filter.
Clogged pre-fuel filter.
Clogged air cleaner.
Engine control system failure.
Injection pump failure.
Clogged strainer.
Electromagnetic type fuel pump failure.
Fuel system failure.
Water or air in fuel system.
Engine control system failure.
Solution
Verify there is no fuel leakage and
replenish.
Replenish oil to full.
Turn PAS to OFF. See
Resetting the
Purge air from fuel system.
Remove water and change element.
Warm fuel pipes with hot water or wait until
ambient temperature rises.
Contact a GMP ASD.
Check/replace air filter.
Replace battery. See

and
Replacement.
Replace corroded part(s) and tighten
securely.
Change with oil of correct viscosity. See
Draining and Refilling the
Contact a GMP ASD.
Adjust by idling control equipment on the
unit. If adjustment is not possible, contact a
GMP ASD.
Remove water and change element.
Clean or change element.
Contact a GMP ASD.
Purge air or remove water.
Contact a GMP ASD.
