9 Troubleshooting

1 Engine will not crank

Possible fault
Faulty or discharged battery (too
low voltage).
Fuse blown.
Loose or corroded connections
in starting circuit.
Wrong engine electric mass con-
nection.
Starter relay is not engaged due
to a voltage too low; caused by
a very long intermediate cable
from engine to control panel.
Faulty starter-switch or faulty
starter-relay.
Faulty starter-motor or pinion
does not engage.
Seized components.
Control lever not in neutral.
Water in the cylinder.

Remedy
Check / recharge battery and
check engine alternator and/or
battery charger.
Replace.
Clean and tighten connections.
Repair.
Install an auxiliary starter relay
Check / replace.
Check / replace starter-motor.
Repair.
Put operating lever in neutral
Check / Repair.

2 Engine cranks but will not start, no smoke from exhaust

Possible fault
(Nearly) Empty fuel tank.
Fuel stop valve closed.
Fuel pre-filter clogged .
Fuel filter clogged with water
and/or contamination.
Vent line of fuel supply tank
clogged.
Faulty injector/injection pump..
Leaking fuel supply line or fuel
injection line.
Air in fuel system.
Electrical fuel low pressure pump
is not working.
Dirt in the inlet or outlet valves
of the electric fuel pump.
Electric fuel pump filter blocked.
Exhaust restricted.
Fault finding table
Remedy
Refill.
Open.
Clean /replace
Check or replace.
Check / clean.
Check, replace if required.
Check / replace.
Check and bleed.
Check the electrical connection
,check the pump ,replace.
Install a strainer in the fuel line
between tank and engine.
Check / clean.
Check.
