SIM-P module connections
Power supply
Another connection is the power. The terminals are located on the
bottom right of the module. The Power word is visibly written in front
of the terminal. The red and the black color indicate respectively
positive (24Voltsdc) and negative terminals (0Vdc). A 24Vdc Power
supply is required for the module and is supplied by the customer. This
supply is directly connected to the SIM‐P. The 15Vdc supply needed
for the emitter and receiver is made internally by the SIM‐P module.
Head connection
The emitter and the receiver have to be connected to the SIM‐P module for normal operation. Each
of them has a 4‐wire cable. Two wires are for power and two are for communication. The
communication is CAN‐BUS level, but does not support the CAN‐BUS standard protocol. The sensor
uses only the hardware features of the CAN‐BUS. The wire colors are:
The emitter cable and receiver cable are connected to the terminal
located at the top right side of the SIM module, regardless of which
terminal is used. The SIM‐P module recognizes which is connected at
the first terminal block and which is connected to the other. At power
up, the module communicates with the receiver and emitter and
determines at which location each is connected. On the top right side
of the module, a LED at REC position will light up if a link is established
with the receiver. Another LED at EM position will also light up when
the link is established with the Emitter. For the system to work
correctly, one needs to connect one emitter and one receiver of the
same size. If it is not the case, an error message will be displayed.
