Drive Belts

Inspecting the belts with the engine running may cause serious injury or death. Turn off the engine and remove the ignition
key before adjusting tension or inspecting belts.

Checking

1.
Check the drive belt for excessive wear, fraying, glazed surfaces, or cracks.
NOTE: Minor, transverse cracks (across the belt width) may be acceptable. Longitudinal cracks (in the direction of belt
length) that join transverse cracks are not acceptable.
2.
Inspect the drive belt for a proper tension of 6 mm (0.25 in.) deflection. Check the belt tension by applying moderate thumb
pressure on the belt at the longest distance between the two pulleys.
