Maintenance

Check the transaxle cooling fan for broken or distorted
blades, and check to see that the fan is securely fas-
tened. Replace the fan if damaged.
Keep the transaxle clean. Grass clippings and dirt will
effect the cooling efficiency of the fins on the transaxle
housings. Avoid high pressure washing, compressed air
is the preferred method of removing loose debris.
Inspect the brake for proper operation. If the brake fails
to stop the vehicle or hold on a 30% slope, adjustments
are necessary. You should also make sure it fully disen-
gages when the pedal is released.
Check to make sure the bypass valve and linkage is
operational. The bypass valve should be fully released
before operating the vehicle. It should extend approxi-
mately 0.22" from the hex nut.
Inspect the transaxle for leaks or damage at the Iip
seals, fittings, hoses, filter, or housings. Check the oil
level and add oil as necessary to bring it up to the proper
level.

Fluids/Greases

Typically, an engine oil with a minimum rating of 55 SUS
at 210° F and an API classification of SH/CD is recom-
mended. A 10W40 engine oil has been selected for use
by the factory and is recommended for normal operating
temperatures. Another alternative that will provide excel-
lent all climate performance is a synthetic engine oil,
such as 5W30 Mobil 1.

The grease used in the manufacture of HYDRO-GEAR
products is a Rykon Premium Grease and should be
substituted for with equivalent products, such as
Chemplus 1-LP, only if it is not available in your area.
NOTE: This grease is not compatible with all grease
types.
Oil & Filter Change
Oil and filter changes should occur after initial 20 hours
of operation, and then approximately every 200 hours of
operation, or once each year.
More frequent oil and filter changes are recommended if
operating conditions are severe or adverse, such as
pulling a plow or tiller for extended periods, or operating
in very dusty conditions.
Remove the filter and allow the oil to drain through the fil-
ter mounting base. After the oil stops flowing you may
install the new filter and tighten 3/4 of one turn after the
filter seal touches the filter mounting base.
Refill the transaxle case to the correct level with the rec-
ommended oil type listed above. The oil level should be
rechecked after running the vehicle for a short time (1
minute will be adequate).
