Version 1.0
Soft Field Takeoff:
Purpose: To safely become airborne from a wet or soft runway at the slowest speed.
Procedure:
Keep aircraft rolling as you take the runway, with full aft stick
Add Left Rudder as power is smoothly added
o
Full Rudder may be needed until rudder becomes effective about 60 kmlhr (30 kts)
Add Full Throttle and Check Engine Instruments
o
Approximately 830 mm Hg and 2350 RPM
Raise nosewheel clear as early as possible
o
Rotate to higher than normal pitch (nose about 6-8 inches off the ground)
Once airborne, remain in ground effect until flying airspeed
o
Minimum of 150 kmlhr (80 kts)
o
Accelerate to normal climb speed of 170 kmlhr (90kts)
Positive Rate of Climb and Insufficient Runway Remaining- Gear Up
At 500 AGL Set Climb Power
o
750 rnm Hg and 2250 RPM
o Airspeed 180-200 kmlhr (1 00-1 10 kts) for cruise climb
o Clearing Turns
Common Errors:
o Poor pitch control, allowing the nose to rotate to an excessively nose high pitch.
Normal Climb:
Procedure:
Initial Climb 170 kmlhr (90 kts)
At 500 AGL Set Climb Power
o 750 mm Hg and 2250 RPM
o Airspeed 180-200 kmlhr (1 00-1 10 kts) for cruise climb
o Clearing Turns
Confirm Gear Up and Place Gear handle in neutral
o
Verify normal air system pressure
Accomplish Climb Checklist
Normal Cruise: (enroute to the training area)
Procedure:
Set Power to 650 mm Hg / 2000 rpm for 65% cruise to the training area (about 240 km/hr, 130
kts.)
Close Gill Shutters and Oil Cooler Door as required
Accomplish the Cruise Checklist
