Dry Spindle Shaft (80).
Loose Spindle Pulley (58).
Loose Motor Pulley (37).
Incorrect Speed
Chips not coming out of hole.
Dull drill bit.
Feeding too slow.
Not lubricated.
Hard grain in wood or lengths
of cutting lips and/or angles not
equal.
Bent drill bit.
No "back-up" material under
workpiece.
Not supported or clamped
properly.
Workpiece pinching drill bit or
excessive feed pressure.
Improper belt tension.
Bent drill bit.
Worn Spindle Ball Bearings (76).
Drill bit not properly installed in
Chuck (81).
Chuck not properly installed.
Spring has improper tension.
Dirt, grease or oil present on
inside of Chuck or on Spindle
Shaft tapered surface.

Likely Solutions
1.
Adjust belt tension.
2.
Lubricate Spindle Shaft.
3.
Check tightness of Retaining Ring (59);
tighten if necessary.
4.
Tighten set screws in pulleys.

Adjust to correct speed.
2.
Retract drill bit frequently to clear chips.
3.
Resharpen drill bit.
4.
Feed fast enough, allowing drill bit to cut.
5.
Lubricate drill bit.
1.
Resharpen drill bit correctly.
2.
Replace drill bit.

Use "back-up" material.

Support or clamp workpiece.

Support or clamp workpiece.

Adjust belt tension.

Use a straight drill bit.
