The quiescent battery voltage V
is constantly monitored to ensure that the charging system is
AUX
connected and operating correctly. The capacitor voltage is monitored externally by the Switch Unit
Driver and Monitor. The healthy condition of the capacitor is indicated to the Controller by the state of
two binary signals. These signals are constantly monitored and used to provide alarms and operation
blocking for quiescent capacitor voltage levels which are out of limits.
Battery and capacitor tests are initiated at user set intervals - typically once per week/month. The
condition and state of the Recloser battery and Recloser capacitor are assessed; any unhealthy states
are identified and can be alarmed. Battery and capacitor tests are not carried out at the same time.
The battery test is initiated first to avoid any possible interaction with the capacitor test which is
performed 30 minutes afterwards.
