1993 Volvo 240
A self-diagnostic system incorporated in the sensor monitors the SRS. If a fault is detected, the "SRS"

warning light will illuminate. The light is included in the warning indicator light cluster in the
instrument panel. Normally, the SRS warning lamp should light up when the ignition is switched on and
should go out after 10 seconds or when the engine is started. Check that this light is functioning properly
every time the car is started.
The following items are monitored by the diagnostic system:
Sensor unit.
Cable harness
Gas generator ignitor.
General SRS information
If the air bag deploys, some noise occurs and a small amount of powder is released. This powder is not
harmful and does not indicate fire.
NOTE: Deployment of SRS components occurs only one time during an
accident.
WARNING! Never drive an SRS equipped car with your thumbs on the steering wheel/airbag housing.
If the SRS warning light stays on after the engine has started or if it comes on while you are driving,
drive the car to the nearest authorized Volvo Dealer for inspection as soon as possible.
ATTENTION! SRS VEHICLE!
THIS CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM. TO PROVIDE
CONTINUED RELIABILITY, CERTAIN ELEMENTS OF THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT
SYSTEM SHALL BE SERVICED OR REPLACED BY JAN. XXXX. SEE OWNERS MANUAL
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

If you are involved in an accident which has resulted in airbag deployment, we recommend the
following:
Have the car towed to an authorized Volvo dealer or collision repair shop. Even if the car is driveable

after an accident, we do NOT recommend driving the car with a deployed air bag.
Have the SRS replacement performed by an authorized Volvo dealer OR ask the body shop
performing the collision repairs to have the SRS replacement done at a Volvo dealer.
Have all deployed/damaged SRS components (air bag) and front seat belt assemblies replaced with
