7 MEASUREMENT MODES (ST)

7.1 The Elcometer 456 gauges have four measurement modes:
Standard (Immediate) Mode (ST): Where readings are taken, rolling
statistics calculated (and displayed), but individual values are not
stored in the memory.
Scan Mode (T): Specifically designed for use with Elcometer 456
Ultra/Scan Probes - see page 79, when Scan Mode is selected, the
user can slide the Ultra/Scan Probe over the entire surface area. As
the probe is lifted off the surface the average (x), lowest (Lo) and
highest (Hi) coating thickness values are displayed. When Batching,
each set of three readings can be shown on a Run Chart - see page 17
and stored into memory.
Scan Mode with Hold (T): As above but allows the probe to be lifted off
the surface for a maximum of 1.5 seconds and replaced without starting
a new set of readings - allowing the user to avoid holes, weld seams, etc.
in the substrate without affecting the measurement results.
Auto Repeat Mode (T): When the probe is placed onto the coated
substrate in Auto Repeat Mode, the gauge automatically takes readings
at a rate of 140 per minute until the probe is removed from the substrate.
When Batching, each individual reading is stored into the memory.
Hi, x & Lo
7.2 NAVSEA MODE (T): Displays the reading to the nearest 1mil (1µm)
above 10mils (254µm) and 0.1mil (0.1µm) below 10mils (254µm). To
select NAVSEA mode, press Menu/Setup/NAVSEA or Batch/New
Batch/NAVSEA.
4 Scan and Auto Repeat Modes are only available on Elcometer 456 Model T separate
gauges. The probe end cap must be fitted to the Ultra/Scan Probe when used in these
modes to avoid damage to the probe tip. Use in these modes without the cap will
invalidate the probe warranty.
