Replacing a Blower Assembly

This procedure provides instructions for replacing a SilkWorm 12000 blower assembly. The SilkWorm
12000 requires a minimum of two operating blower assemblies, and can continue operating during the
replacement only if the other two blower assemblies continue to operate. If more than one blower must
be powered off, power off the SilkWorm 12000 to prevent overheating.

Procedure
1.
Before removing the blower assembly, verify the other two assemblies are functioning correctly.
The blower assembly Power LED should be steady green and the Fault LEDs should not be lit (see
Figure 3-17 on page 3-28

interface, refer to the Fabric OS Procedures Guide.

Remove the blower assembly from the chassis.

The SilkWorm 12000 requires a minimum of two operating blower assemblies at all times.
To ensure continuous adequate cooling, maintain three operating blower assemblies at all
times except for the brief period when replacing a blower assembly.
The port cards automatically shut down if the internal temperature range is exceeded.
Disassembling any part of the blower assembly voids the part warranty and regulatory
certifications. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the blower assembly.

Support the blower assembly from underneath while removing it from the chassis.
Use the screwdriver to loosen the self-retaining screws at top and bottom of blower assembly.
Push in the top of the handle, then pull out the lower part and pull the blower out of the chassis.
Do not force the installation. If the blower assembly does not slide in easily, ensure it
is properly oriented before continuing with the installation.
Orient the blower assembly as shown in
to ensure it is seated.
Verify that Power LED displays a green light; if not, ensure blower assembly is correctly
seated.
Push the top of the handle into the recess.
Tighten the self-retaining screws to finger-tight.
