Introducing the SilkWorm 12000

The SilkWorm 12000 is a high-performance 14U switch that can operate as a stand-alone switch or in a
fabric containing multiple switches. It is available with 32-ports, 64-ports, or 128 ports (two 64-port
switches in a single chassis), depending upon the number of port cards installed. It can contain up to two
logical switches: one for any port cards in slots 1-4, and one for any port cards in slots 7-10.
The SilkWorm 12000 includes the Fabric OS™ and is compatible with SilkWorm 2x00, 20x0, 3200,
3800, and 3900 switches.

Overview

This chapter provides the following information:

High Availability

The SilkWorm 12000 is designed to provide high availability and redundancy. It includes two
redundant CP (control processor) cards; one CP card actively manages the SilkWorm 12000, and the
other acts as a standby to allow failover if required. Failover occurs automatically if the active CP card
fails. The CP cards can be replaced while the SilkWorm 12000 is operating if one CP card is replaced at
a time.
The SilkWorm 12000 has the following high availability features:
